WP Engine Web Hosting Review 2021 (Good and Bad)
While not the oldest managed WordPress administrator, WP Engine is now the largest and most visible player in the hosted WordPress management space.
In 2018, they raised a huge $ 250 million grant, which gave them a battleground to expand their product and get more players in the WordPress space, such as StudioPress, creators of the popular Genesis program and children’s themes.
In this update, we continued to host WP Engine again:
• Many different performance tests have been performed
• Tested the user interface and experience to give you screen tones
• tested how long it took WP Engine to answer support questions at various times of the day
• get into prices and how WP is compared to other managers.
After reading this post, you should be able to decide if they are ready or not.
Let's go in…
Why Use WP Engine? Features:
WP Engine is a managed WordPress administrator.
If you are unfamiliar with that name, it really means that they are not just hosting your website, and can add many features and improvements to help:
• speed up your site (with direct use of WordPress)
• reduce the burden of website maintenance
• Protect your site from malicious characters
• Simplify your work flow.
At a higher level, you can basically say that WP Engine is trying to eliminate all the 'unpleasant' aspects of managing a WordPress website, so you can focus on the 'fun' parts, like creating content and increasing your traffic.
For example, instead of forcing you to see how you can set up a temporary backup plugin to make sure your site loads quickly, they use the temporary backup at server level. This not only means you don’t have to raise a finger, but it is also a better solution than using a caching plugin.
In this first section, we will share some of the most notable features of WP Engine - basically, these are the reasons you should enjoy using them.
Functional Designs To Make Your Site Upload Fast
Making your site load faster is the main task of any WordPress manager - and the speed of your site affects everything from user experience to bounce rates and even SEO.
Because WP Engine only hosts WordPress sites, they were able to build all of their designs from the ground up to be customized for WordPress. This leads to better performance than standard webmasters who need to be able to host any application.
So, how does WP Engine make WordPress load faster?
First, they use server-level backup with Varnish and Memcached, which allows your server to send saved content without uploading WordPress. This provides excellent page loading times and helps your server run smoothly (as you will see in our upload test results).
In addition, you get some features for efficiency, including:
• Built-in Content Delivery Network (CDN) with Stackpath for fast global page loading times
• PHP 7.4-plus support
AWS infrastructure (major cloud hosting provider)
• global data selection.
As you'll see in our test data, WP Engine always uploads our full demo site in less than half a second.
Simple Features to Save Time
Another great advantage of WP Engine is simplicity. Obviously, WP Engine does a lot of different things to make your life easier when it comes to managing your WordPress websites.
First, they perform two important functions:
• Daily backups
• Basic WordPress updates
To help you operate safely on your site, they offer you two different platforms, and you can easily hold your position in between as needed.
WP Engine also integrates with the local WordPress development tool for local development.
Strong Security Protection from Hackers
Because WordPress is so popular, it is an attractive target for hackers and malicious characters.
To help you combat these threats and keep your site safe, WP Engine offers many functional security features.
First, they use their own interactive firewall. A firewall sits between your website and its visitors, and automatically filters traffic. For regular social visitors, there is no difference in experience, but if a firewall detects a malicious visitor it can block that visit before damaging your website. Basically, a firewall stops bad things from happening.
They also offer free SSL certificates, which protect data passing between your website and visitor browsers.
If your site can still be infected with malware while hosted on WP Engine, their support will do a thorough scan and fix the problem.
Free access to the Genesis framework and children's themes
Finally, all WP Engine programs include free access to Genesis Framework and all 35-plus StudioPress kids themes.
The Genesis framework and its children's themes have an excellent reputation for quality and functionality and code, so this is a value-added feature.
Now that you know what to expect from WP Engine, let’s get into the extra section of our review.
WP Engine Performance: Data From Over 300 Tests
After checking the WP Engine page loading times for more than a week, we were impressed with the performance of our test site, which was loaded every less than a second.
We'll show you data in a second, but first let's talk about what our test site looked like.
To mimic a 'real' website, we didn't just check out the default 'hello world' post.
Instead, we used the Genesis Framework and introduced a full Authority Pro demo site. Then we checked the landing page, which included features such as:
• email sign-up form
• evidence
• CTAs
• list of recent blogs.
Basically, it has everything a real website could have.
Why did we choose the Framework of Genesis? Because, as you read above, all WP Engine customers get access to Genesis Framework and children's themes for free.
Let's take a look at the performance tests we've done…
